The first car to bear the name was the 1949 Coupe de Ville http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_de_Ville_series), BUT sadly Cadillac ended DeVille’s production in June 2005 (my car VIN#1G6KD54YX5U267630 built date: 6/22/2005). The 2005 Cadillac Deville was Presidential State http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_Cadillac_DTS_Presidential_State_Car) and Regan to Obama to Pope used Deville’s as their official car. This is the FINEST car I ever driven (out of all the luxury in its class) & finest out of my 3 Cadillac’s, period….. The reason sadly letting it go to new parent is because I bought last edition of Northstar (2011 Cadillac DTS).
