Lest we Forget - Vinodini's Murals Pano
Vinodini Jayaraman, an artist of Indian origin, now lives and works in Memphis, Tennessee, by the banks of the Mississippi river. You may reach her @ vinodinij@gmail.com and read more about her “Sun Arts and Murals” and passion from http://silkepics.com
“Lest We Forget” is a hundred feet mural Vinodini painted for the University of Memphis. The painting is dedicated to Tom III the Royal Bengal Tiger the Mascot of the University and all students of Memphis. This outdoor mural features a dozen tigers, nine elephants and host of other animals in the tragic list of the endangered species. The work was completed in 27 days.
Vinodini’s interest in wild life art began as she watched the callous depletion of forest lands during her growing years in Kerala. She has been particularly influenced by the powerful words of Edward O. Wildon the Pulitzer Prize winning Harvard Biologist whose prophetic comment in the eighties has been proved true. “ The worst thing that can happen during the 1980s is not energy depletion, economic collapses, limited nuclear war, or conquest by a totalitarian government. As terrible as these catastrophes would be for us, they can be repaired within a few generations. The one process ongoing in the 1980s that will take millions of years to correct is the loss of genetic and species diversity by the destruction of natural habitats. This is the folly that our descendants are least likely to forgive us for ”.
